🦌🔍 Students Become Wildlife Detectives at the Detroit Zoo! 🐺🦴

Our 6th grade scholars recently embarked on an unforgettable adventure to the Detroit Zoo as part of our district's amazing Cultural Passport Program! 🌟 This special program provides students with opportunities to explore new places, engage in hands-on learning, and experience the world beyond the classroom. 🚌✨

Before exploring the zoo, students transformed into wildlife scientists and investigators! 🔬🕵️‍♂️ They participated in an exciting ecological investigation based on a real-life mystery from Isle Royale National Park, a remote island in Lake Superior known for its famous wolf and moose population study. 🏞️🦌🐺

The challenge? Students had to determine whether a moose had died from wolf predation 🐺 or starvation 🌿. Just like real researchers, they examined evidence and pieced together clues to solve the mystery.

During the investigation, scholars:
🔎 Examined scat samples
🦴 Studied bone configurations and skeletal remains
📚 Identified and named different bones
🤔 Analyzed evidence and drew conclusions
🎤 Presented their findings to their peers

Working collaboratively, students used critical thinking, observation skills, and scientific reasoning to support their conclusions. It was incredible to watch them think like real scientists and defend their claims with evidence! 👏🧠

After completing their investigation, students enjoyed exploring the Detroit Zoo and observing animals from around the world. 🦒🐘🦁🐧 They made connections between what they learned during the investigation and the ecosystems they observed throughout the zoo.

This exciting field trip brought science to life and demonstrated how learning can happen anywhere. 🌍✨ Through the Cultural Passport Program, our students continue to gain enriching experiences that inspire curiosity, deepen understanding, and create lasting memories.
